Search Suggestions

  • Start with simple one or two word searches.
  • Subjects searches (garden, bicycle, children, landscape) will often return much better results than the names of movements (abstract expressionism, dadaism).
  • Finally, if at first you don't succeed - try, try again. If "gardening" doesn't return much, try "gardens," or "garden," or "gardener." Or use the wildcard and try "gard@."
Using the ImageBase

We are showing most of the information we have about these works: artist, title, date and medium. The ImageBase does not contain a wealth of art-historical information, terminology and/or analysis. What it does contain are tens of thousands of images indexed by descriptive keywords.

Performing an ImageBase Search

  • Locate The ImageBase search bar at the top of any screen.

  • Enter descriptive keywords into the "Keywords" field.

  • Separate words by spaces.

  • Multiple words are searched using an "and" operation.

  • Click "go" to search.

Technical Help
The ImageBase uses the Flash-based Zoomify technology to serve high-resolution images. Zoomify requires the Flash Player 6 or higher.
