The de Young app is now available for Apple Watch. The app, described by CNN Money as an “invisible tour guide,” offers fascinating insights by the museum’s curators and an easily-navigable map to help you see more of the collections. Your Apple Watch will allow you to effortlessly receive notifications as you approach selected artworks on guided tours that cover diverse subjects including American paintings dating from as early as 1670 and sculptures and murals from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.
Patrons with disabilities that prevent them from visiting the de Young in person can now visit the museum remotely with the use of a computer with a camera and a Wi-Fi connection. The new Beam Tour program uses an ambulatory device known as Beam and allows for an independent and interactive experience. The device’s sensitive lenses allow the offsite visitor to see the art in high resolution, while its microphone, screen, and speakers enable interaction in real time with guides or friends in the museum.
